COSTUMES & LABELING & OTHER IMPORTANT INFO

All costumes and accessories (including hats and shoes) must be labeled with the dancer’s name. This applies to all dancers, including teens.

  • Use masking tape inside clothing and shoes if no label is available.

  • Please label water bottles, andfor younger dancers their bags.

  • Dancers with 4 plus dances should coordinate and bring hanging racks to share —costumes should arrive on hangers where applicable. We will have plenty of chairs/tables to hold clothes for dancers that do not need racks.

  • Don’t forget your checklist! This venue is not just ten minutes away, so double-check you’ve packed everything.

HAIR

  • Children: For those with long enough hair -Pulled back and low ponytail. Middle part or braided. You may leave bangs as is. Short hair - please pull off your face.

  • Older dancers (Juniors and Seniors):
Low ponytail - middle part and slicked back – curly hair concerns, please see our staff 😊

MAKEUP

All dancers should have color on their face so their features are visible under stage lights. (boys, use discretion)

  • Blush

  • Lipstick in a noticeable shade (avoid nude or pale tones that are lighter than natural lips)

  • Neutral eyeshadow (avoid blue, purple or green tones)

JEWELRY

  • Remove ALL jewelry (Yes those bracelets). The only exception is stud earrings that need to stay in. Please remove at home, as we would not want anything to go missing.

DRESSING ROOM RULES AND GUIDANCE

To help the day go smoothly and keep everyone comfortable, please review the following dressing room guidelines with your dancers:

Occupying Time

  • We’ll provide quiet activities to help keep our tiny dancers entertained.

  • You’re welcome to bring small, quiet items like books, crayons, or coloring pages.

  • No electronic devices — we don’t want anything lost, broken, or causing distractions.

Food & Snacks

  • No nuts of any kind (we are a nut-free event).

  • Please avoid greasy snacks and anything that may leave residue or color on fingers.

Drinks

  • Only clear water is allowed.

  • No juice boxes, colored drinks, sodas, or sports drinks like Gatorade.

Meal Time - Dancers who will be with us for the full day should bring a meal

  • As we have done in the past, please pack a healthy boxed meal with them. Parents please do not plan on “Delivering” food to your dancer in the middle of our rehearsal. Thank you.

  • Food may only be eaten in designated areas!  We need to follow this rule.

  • No nuts, please.

  • Please avoid giant bags of potato chips and similar snacks. In addition to being unhealthy, they can create unnecessary messes backstage.

    ***PLEASE LABEL EVERYTHING***

Some of our dancers have 10+ routines and multiple quick changes, so unlabeled items can quickly become a major issue.

Our Showcase: Parent and Guest Information

Doors Open @ 3:30 guests

Parking

Brownell Avenue Parking Garage

For free parking at the Theater of the Performing Arts, use the garage rear entrance on the Learning Corridor campus. Enter from Brownell Avenue next to Sher’s Automotive Center. Note, there is no access directly from Washington Street.  The garage entrance is directly behind the Automotive Center (Mobile) and only has a very small sign.  If you have hit a speed bump on Brownell Avenue, you missed the entrance.

Once you have parked your car:

Going to the Main Theater Exit the garage on the campus side, not the side of Washington Street. Turn right and walk along the side of the building that is connected to the parking garage. This white building is the theater. Go around the corner to the front side and enter through the Box Office Entrance or the Main Entrance.

Guest Entry & Tickets

  • All guests should enter through the main entrance.

  • Please be patient as you wait for the doors to open. Please have your tickets ready upon entry.

  • Seating is general admission, first come, first served.

  • There will be a ten minute intermission. The facility has enough restroom facilities to ensure our intermission is timely.

  • Our show is expected to end at 6:15

Accessibility Needs

  • If you have a guest who may need assistance with stairs or seating accommodations, please contact Kelly ahead of time so we can prepare accordingly.

Dressing Room & Safety Guidelines for the safety of our students

🚫 No guests (including parents, family, or friends) are permitted in the dressing area during the show or intermission for any reason. Specific approval will be needed for medical reasons.

If there is any reason to contact a parent during the performance, a staff member will come find you.

After the Show: Student Pick-Up Procedures

At the end of each performance, our staff will assist dancers in gathering their belongings and preparing for dismissal.

For Families of Younger Dancers:

  • Parents of our younger dancers will be invited in first. Please do not enter the dressing area until we are ready.

We ask that only one adult per dancer enters the dressing area to help minimize congestion and maintain a calm, safe environment. Thank you for your patience — your child’s safety is our priority!
